This was an editorial cover shoot for Modern Luxury magazine Scottsdale. They have markets in Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami to name a few. We shot on location at an AirBNB called The Brexley in North Scottsdale.

My first Cover Shoot

I was photographing several editorials of people when the publisher said that they wanted the cover to be of the house. The publisher sat with the owner of the home and viewed photos from a previous shoot that an architectural photographer shot a few years back.

They saw what their options were and then turned to me to see if I had any interest in capturing the house in a different way for the cover.

I was thrilled to have this opportunity and for the rest of the day, I studied the sunlight and how it touched the house, the backyard, furniture, wood, trees, and the water.

It’s a very different approach when shooting architecture that I quickly fell in love with. The next day I showed up and photographed four editorials for the feature and at the end of the day, at sunset, I went out into the backyard to shoot what would be my very first cover for Modern Luxury magazine.
